What is Hypnosis and how does it work?
Hypnosis is a natural, yet altered, state of mind that involves comfortable relaxation, a redirection of attention, and active sensory imagination. The benefit of trance lies in it’s ability to relax the minds critical examiner (or that little voice that won’t be quiet) of incoming ideas so that communication between the conscious and subconscious can occur – thereby revealing the individuals own inner truth to themselves. Although the experience can be likened to being awake while you sleep, it can also be likened to rapid attainment of a meditative state where access to the subconscious mind is obtained. Here there is a level of consciousness deeper than what you are normally aware of. Here you find the wisdom of your inner truth and deeper nature or Soul Self. At this depth you are more than your thoughts, and more than your emotions and feelings too.

Hypnotic SpiralTypically, as Westerners, we find challenge in sitting still and quieting the mind. The hypnotic state of trance allows us rapid access to that part of the mind typically not so vocally audible by suspending our critical judgment temporarily within a special state of resting alertness. While that persons focus of attention is redirected, the hypnotherapist can guide the client to access their own answers from that “all-knowing” part within. So, in the state of hypnosis, the critical, or judgmental, part of your mind is “asleep,” while the fully-aware subconscious mind, often called your “creative intelligence,” is highly receptive and responsive to all beneficial suggestions giving the client more flexible control over his/her awareness, attention and thinking processes.

Many hypnotherapists only use suggestion therapy. I find this a huge disservice to both our profession and the client. The whole purpose of using hypnosis in a therapeutic setting is to uncover the deeper beliefs and intentions of ones Soul nature and drive. This kind of information is only accessible via deep meditative practice and insight – which is what hypnosis is able to achieve much more quickly. The delivering of positive suggestions should therefore be from having first received them from this deeper Soul place. A pre session interview cannot reveal this level of information. But once this Soul level information has been uncovered the hypnotherapist can then enable and empower the individual to transform their lives towards health, peace, comfort, vitality and happiness – because it is based on the deepest possible Truth at this time. Thus, your creative intelligence develops an understanding and reframed perspective on the particular issue, and integrates the new wisdom into your every day life – because it is ‘your’ Truth and not that which the hypnotherapist has decided for you. (That would make them just a hypnotist – see this blog here for more on the differences between hypnotism, hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis).

I therefore use hypnosis as a tool for uncovering ones deeper Soul nature and intentions in life. In this way my work is more psycho-spiritual in nature than your average hypnotherapists’ approach, as it takes into account that we are spirit expressing itself as a body/mind. By working with me you will therefore expand your world view and open your mind to take on more perspectives that will help you create a greater degree of balance, love and joy in your life – expansion and growth is key for letting go. Often it is suggested to clients that they take up a meditative practice and a conscious embodiment practice like yoga or qi gone, tai chi, dance or any other physical practice that can be mindfully practiced. If you think your mind is too busy to mindfully practice anything, then check this blog out here.

Healing in NatureWhat is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnotherapy or (General Hypnosis as I refer to it on this site) is the application of hypnotic techniques specifically for therapeutic healing purposes. We all have an innate ability to control our pain – hypnotherapy is a path to that control. For example, it can be used in the management and reduction of chronic pain, migraines, IBS symptoms, period and labor pain, etc, etc. Clinical Hypnotherapy also address accelerated healing, surgery preparation and dental work, emotional anxiety and mental anguish from stress, low-motivation, childhood trauma, procrastination, depression, etc. Clinical Hypnotherapy is simply a way of harnessing and utilizing the amazing, limitless power of our subconscious minds in every aspect of our lives. It’s all about mentally shifting out of a state of discomfort and into a state of comfort.

What is Spiritual Hypnosis?
Spiritual Hypnosis is the application of hypnotic techniques in a transpersonal manner specifically for the purposes of spiritual growth and development. This is a depth of work that is carried out at a level of development beyond that of New Age. Here hypnosis is applied to access your Soul – that deepest part of you that is still personal; that part of you that holds the wisdom and virtue (or sometimes lack there of) accumulated from past life experience.   This is a depth of personal inquiry that is especially relevant for those of you on a spiritual quest to understand your most authentic self. This approach is integral in that it views you as a mind, heart and Soul co-mingling in a precious human body. Through engaging in this level of work, which layers infinitely, you will acquire the skills and mindfulness to not only better balance these variables of mind, heart and soul with the body, but to also be more present in daily life so that you actually manifest your deepest, most truest, intentions for this life time. When we live at this depth of Self, the challenges of daily life become simply something else to use as spiritual practice. The drama involved in living the emotional roller coaster of life is transcended and a whole new life experience opens up for you. This is a level of work I find highly rewarding and thoroughly recommend as an adjunct to any yogic/spiritual practice. Contact me here if you’re ready to take your life practice to the next level.

Hypnotic ClockCan anyone be hypnotized?
Yes. Only if they WANT to be. Anyone that sincerely desires to achieve their goals or meet their Soul and live from a more authentic place in life – and wants to do this work – can be hypnotized. Some people can immediately go into a deep state of hypnosis, while others may take longer to establish a light to medium trance. However, deep trance is not necessary for positive results. At the end of the day, being hypnotized is simply achieving a state of consciousness where you are finally able to neglect the monkey mind and instead listen to a deeper level of inner wisdom.

Won’t I lose control?
This is one of the greatest myths about hypnosis – that while in hypnosis the client will say or do whatever the hypnotist tells them to say or do. This is not in the slightest bit true. In hypnosis, you cannot be coerced, manipulated, or programmed to do anything you do not truly want to say or do. Hypnosis can only enhance and magnify your ability to say and do those things you truly want to say and do. Going against the True Nature of your Soul is not a natural or easy thing to do, on any level.

Will I be forced to reveal information secret to me?
Another sad myth of this profession. Hypnosis is not a truth serum. You cannot be coerced into saying or doing anything that is not within your own morals or beliefs. You retain control at all times.

Portrait of professional hypnotist on black backgroundBut what about Stage Hypnosis?
In stage hypnotism performances, the volunteers appear to lose control. It must be remembered that they did volunteer and they are willing participants looking for “license” to act out in outlandish ways. Typically, these people already have exhibitionist and are wannabe-actor type personalities. They follow the hypnotist’s suggestions, even if they do look ridiculous, because deep down they want to be part of the performance, if not the star of the show, and have subconsciously agreed to do whatever they’re told. But they remain in control and within their own morals and beliefs the entire time. Further, Stage Hypnotists develop a skill in selecting those volunteers naturally more extroverted and uninhibited because they make for a better show. And a little secret here too that I’ll let you in to; if its an adult level maturity, the hypnotist will seek out those people who appear to have a sense of humor coupled with the least amount of morals, ethics, standards or inhibitions. Two reasons for this; these people make for the funniest of shows AND they make the stage hypnotist look even cooler, which is a wonderful boost for his already big, fat, funny ego 😉 Check out this blog here for more on the difference between stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy for therapeutic purposes.

Will I become a Zombie in Hypnosis?
Another big ole sad misconception is that in hypnosis, you are an unaware, unconscious “zombie”, oblivious of ones surroundings. This is also not true. In hypnosis, you hear every single word the hypnotherapist is saying. Further, you will only implement each proposed suggestion if you believe they are toward the attainment of your goals. You will also develop the capacity to listen from a deeper place, a more heart centered place, than what you’re accustomed to when you simply listen at the level of sound. From this deeper listening place you naturally tune into a deeper consciousness, some might call it the consciousness of the heart, others of the Soul…. and perhaps this depth of listening that is deeper than sound is simply the bridge between the two. But however you look at it, it certainly holds a far greater intelligence than that of our mythical zombie.

How will I feel?
Most people find the hypnotic state to be peaceful, relaxing and comfortable, yet uplifting, energizing and rejuvenating. But, everyone has a different experience in this middle ground between wakefulness and sleep. Some people feel a sense of heaviness in the limbs, while others may experience a light-as-a-feather, floating sensation. Clients report varying results including lightened stress load, rapid pain relief, emotional release, profound inner comfort, greater control, inner peace and confidence, increased self love, greater focus, etc, etc, the list goes on. What is it in your life that you want to change or improve, let go of or obtain? How could you feel different in daily life if you lived from this deeper place that is always and forever present within you? Revitalize with HypnosisHow long is a hypnotherapy session?
The average session will take an hour and a half, within which you will learn of the interrelationship between mind and body through hypnosis. You will learn how to harness the power of your own subconscious mind so that you achieve your desired goals. You will also learn how to maintain that success on your own through self-hypnosis, otherwise known as meditation, thus helping you transform your experience of life. Each session you have will deepen on the one previous. The ultimate goal is to connect to a Soul level of information so that you may activate in daily life your deeper level energy and intentions for this lifetime.

Your commitment and desire to live from your deepest truth to create positive and permanent change in your life is prerequisite to our working together. I work with clients who are truly willing to evolve and grow beyond their blocks and barriers now – which means they are willing to do things differently. Each individual is different and works at their own pace. Some want to go deeper through the layers of their soul and learn more about their Soul nature and intentions, while others just want to work on a single issue. Hypnosis has a compounding effect so while some people come out of a first session with a huge and transforming experience, others take a little longer. Its very much like learning to play the piano or to push weights at the gym… one can’t expect to know how to play proficiently or to suddenly have muscles they didn’t have beforehand. The mind muscle needs exercise and repetition in order to evolve its ways of Being and to reveal deeper and deeper levels of inner wisdom.

You are the Co-Therapist with me in our sessions together, so together we will decide how many sessions to have, but a minimum of three is good to start off with. If you’re on more of a spiritual quest and want to use your sessions as an accompaniment to your yogic practice then we can space them out more and see each other for longer. Working the way I use hypnosis like this will help with the integration challenges that emerge as your practice reveals more of your true nature.

As your therapist my job is to guide you to a place within you that is deeper than you are normally aware of and to then ask questions in a way that elicits the energy and information required to help you achieve your current purpose for each session. As Co-Therapist, your job is to give me the information from this deeper place. In this way you learn to trust the deeper wisdom available within you which, under normal circumstances, you’d be likely to dismiss.

I prefer to focus on my client and not the clock, and would prefer my client to not be worried about the money time is costing, and so, I charge by the session, not the hour. Most issues require a minimum of 3 sessions for maximum efficiency and benefit. Your commitment to a 3-session package demonstrates to me your commitment to your health, development and wellbeing. Depending on what sort of path you’re on, you may choose to stop there or to carry on. Hypnosis used as a tool for connecting to your Soul level of energy and information as an ongoing adjunct to your spiritual practice is a highly beneficial way of uncovering shadow, blocks, barriers and re-owning disowned parts of self. In this way you will evolve and grow through your practice much more quickly and comfortably than you may without it. This kind of therapy can be ongoing because it will grow with you as you develop and transcend through higher levels of development.  Click here for more on how the hypnotic process might work for you personally.

How effective is it?
Statistics, on average, report 600 sessions of Psychotherapy help 38% of people to reach their goals. 22 sessions of Behavior Modification lead to 72% of clients reaching their goals. Clients of qualified hypnotherapist require an average of about 6 sessions before 93% reach their goals. Your effectiveness is predominantly dependent upon your commitment and desire to obtain your goals and achieve your life purpose. The duration of your time with me is up to you and dependent on your own growth and development goals on personal and spiritual levels. My commitment to you is to the same. I will help you to connect to your Soul Self, that deepest, most true dimension of yourself that is still personal. From this depth you will see that all you need is the faith to know that living from this depth will provide an inner platform upon which to stand and a path upon which to walk… and from here you will learn how to fly. Connecting to your deepest Truth, at the level of your Soul Self is what it is all about. And at the end of the day it’s entirely up to you and your readiness to take your seat in life, to show up for that which you signed up for at the depth of your Soul… After that life becomes unbelievably easy! Kali CathieWhat is your point of difference in how you work with Hypnosis?
I use hypnosis as a tool for therapeutic growth and development with the understanding that you are a transpersonal being. And what I mean by that is that you have a body and you have feelings and emotions as well as thoughts and ideas or desires – all of which co-mingle with the more-than that you are beyond all of this. The more-than that you are beyond all of this is your Soul. That deepest dimension of Self that is still personal. So you have a body, mind, emotions and desires AND you are more than that too. This more-than that is your Soul has ideas, goals, desires and intentions of it’s own and when we go against this energy and information, or we resist it in some way, we struggle in life by experiencing blocks and barriers, anxiety, fears and phobias, body weight issues, addictions and general inner conflict and unhappiness. But when we clear through the mind clutter of such things and come to a place of deeper listening, then we can hear the whisperings of our Soul nature. In how I use hypnosis I am helping you to fast-track your way through that of the mind that does not serve you and into that of the Soul which will guide, support and direct you in a very powerful way. This is an integral approach that takes into account all aspects of mind, body, heart and soul and, on a deeper level, the anatomy of the Soul which is the Chakra system – you can read more about an integral approach and the chakras in this blog here. Using such an approach, it is not my opinions or evaluation of you that you are investing in, but your very own deeper wisdom. My skill lies in helping you clear the way so that you may connect to that wisdom. Once connected at this level, you can heal all manner of mind/body/heart issues. So it is an artful balance of use between Spiritual and General Hypnotic tools that will help you to lift your glass ceiling, spread the wings of your Soul and manifest the reality you were born to live. It is my honor to serve you in this Heart-felt, Soul-filled way so that you can create your own reality exactly the way you need to for YOU. Click here for more on how the hypnotic process might work for you personally.

*Hypnotherapy is a highly effective adjuvant and complementary approach to medical and psychological health practices. Some hypnotherapeutic work may require approval from a licensed physician or psychologist. Hypnotherapy is never intended to replace medical treatment or severe psychological treatment. It can be regarded, by its emphasis on the use of internal resources for therapy, as a non-medical therapy which accomplishes its results without direct external intervention
